abstract = {This study demonstrates the application of cosmic-ray muography as a non-invasive method for monitoring sediment accumulation and tidal influences in the Shanghai Outer Ring Tunnel, an immersed tube tunnel located beneath the Huangpu River in Shanghai, China. A portable, dual-layer plastic scintillator detector was deployed to conduct muon flux scans along the tunnel’s length and to continuously monitor muon flux, allowing for the study of tidal effects. Geant4 simulations validated the correlation between muon attenuation and overburden thickness, incorporating sediment, water, and concrete layers. Key findings include a strong anti-correlation between the measured muon flux and the water levels observed at a nearby tide gauge. The results align with geotechnical data and simulations, especially in the region of interest, confirming muography’s sensitivity to sediment dynamics. This work establishes muography as a robust tool for long-term, real-time monitoring of submerged infrastructure, offering significant advantages over conventional invasive techniques. The study underscores the potential for integrating muography into civil engineering practices to enhance safety and operational resilience in tidal environments.},

Using particle-in-cell simulations, we demonstrate that the charge state agrees with the barrier suppression threshold of the wakefield and reaches a higher value via collision. The ionisation of gold nanowires occurs only via collisional-damped wakefield. We found that the collisional ionisation of high-Z nanowires depends on the onset of the z pinch. These results suggest a different ionisation mechanism of the structured target in the subfemtosecond regime.},

abstract = {A highly energetic photon is emitted via nonlinear inverse Compton scattering after an electron undergoes scattering with an ultra-intense relativistic laser pulse. In the laser-nanostructured interaction, gamma photons are emitted in different directions due to different electron heating mechanisms. However, the physics that leads to such gamma-photon emission directionality still requires further understanding. This paper shows that ∼53\% of the photons emitted from the nanowires fall into the forward-directed cone, with ∼21\% of the backward-emitted photons. Using the two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations, we found that the backward-emitted photons are mainly ascribed to the j × B heating and reflux electrons. The direction of photon emission from the nanowire tip is in the direction of the ponderomotive force. Furthermore, we also demonstrate that the nanowire target attached to the supporting substrate helps to enhance forward photon emission and reduce emission from reflux electrons. Understanding the correlation between the laser heating mechanisms and the directionality of photon emission could provide insights into the generation of collimated gamma rays using nanowire targets for various applications.},

abstract = { Gravitational waves result from various spacetime-perturbing events which are due to various kinds of motions and changing distributions of mass. Most studies on the source of gravitational waves were derived from the dynamic character of two binary compacted massive objects such as black holes and neutron stars, therefore gravitational waves which originated from a single event source would be of interest. In this paper, we derive the stress–energy tensor (SET) of a braneworld wormhole and demonstrate how the bulk-induced gravitational waves influence the SET of the wormhole. Thus, this study not only suggests a single source of gravitational waves, but also proves the existence of higher dimensional space by providing a formulation, namely, the SET at the wormhole throat affected by the bulk-induced gravitational waves. },
