01 / Research

Particles, plasmas
& the tools to study them.

My research brings together precision measurements, collider data, laser–plasma simulations, and experimental detector work, from fundamental questions to practical applications.

Precision muon physics

Probing fundamental physics through the muon’s magnetic moment and the search for its electric dipole moment.

  • Muon g−2 beam-dynamics corrections, systematic uncertainties, calorimeter acceptance, and simulation validation.
  • Bayesian optimisation of muon injection and storage for PSI muEDM; building the local muEDM analysis effort at XMUM.
Muon beam optimisation study ↗

Collider physics & open data

Studying Higgs production and dark-matter signatures, while developing new analyses with publicly available collision data.

  • CMS associated-Higgs analyses, electron-efficiency and charge-misidentification tools, and dark-matter sensitivity studies.
  • Developing CMS Open Data workflows for toponium-like signal studies, supported by experience coordinating CMS generator integration.

Laser–plasma & wakefield acceleration

Studying how intense laser pulses interact with plasma and nanostructured targets, with an interest in compact particle sources.

  • Current work: particle-in-cell studies of electron and photon production, and Bayesian optimisation of laser absorption with ELI-NP and Lancaster collaborators.
  • Research direction: laser wakefield acceleration for compact, high-energy electron beams and potential electron-driven muon sources.

Experimental methods & detectors

Building, characterising, and testing detector systems, and using cosmic-ray muons to investigate infrastructure.

  • LEMMA drift-chamber assembly and CERN test-beam work; CMS silicon-tracker module efficiency and resolution studies at Fermilab.
  • Muon-detector characterisation for muography and simulation development for monitoring the East Coast Rail Link.

Across these themes

Scientific computing & machine learning

Bayesian optimisation, large-scale data analysis, and reproducible software connect my projects. Earlier DUNE work combined GEANT4 simulation analysis with machine-learning prototypes for proton-decay studies.

From research to the classroom

Hands-on physics education

I am developing cloud-chamber and cosmic-muon-counter activities alongside CMS Open Data resources, connecting detector construction, coding, and real experimental data with physics learning.
